Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Thursday resigned from four standing committees of the National Assembly, in line with the party’s decision to withdraw from parliamentary committees.

Barrister Gohar submitted his resignation to the office of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

According to details, a total of 18 PTI members also handed in their resignations from various committees.

The PTI chairman stepped down from the Standing Committees on Law and Justice, Human Rights, Information Technology (IT), and the House Business Advisory Committee.

Other PTI lawmakers who submitted resignations include Junaid Akbar, Amir Dogar, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Shehryar Afridi, Asif Khan, Faisal Amin Gandapur, and Ali Asghar Khan, among others.

Barrister Gohar said, “I have resigned from four committees. We made every effort to remain part of the system and keep it functioning. PTI had 180 seats across the assemblies, with majorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, and 91 seats in the National Assembly. Our workers were martyred, our founder has been unjustly jailed, yet we always called for dialogue. Even now, it is not too late.”

The PTI chairman clarified that no political negotiations are currently underway, but described the resignations as part of the party’s political stance.

The wave of resignations follows PTI founder Imran Khan’s directive for party lawmakers to vacate all parliamentary committees.

A day earlier, Junaid Akbar resigned as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, submitting his resignation to Chief Whip Amir Dogar.

Earlier, MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur, brother of the KP chief minister, also resigned from three committees in line with party policy.
