PTI decides to contest by-election in NA-129 Lahore
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to participate in the upcoming by-election in NA-129 Lahore.
A decision to this effect was taken in a virtual meeting of the PTI’s political committee in Islamabad on Tuesday night.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the committee expressed gratitude to the PTI founder for placing complete trust in them.
It stated that all political matters have now been entrusted to the political committee for further consultation.
The committee expressed serious concerns over the daily hearings of the Toshakhana trial being held in Adiala Jail and said daily hearings infringe upon the fundamental rights of the accused and will hinder the fair delivery of justice.
The committee said that PTI members recently disqualified in the May 9 cases were still considered as the party’s true representatives and paid tributes to them over what it said as unjust convictions.
The meeting decided that the party would boycott by-elections in constituencies where members lost their seats through disqualification.
According to the statement, the PTI will participate in the by-election in Lahore’s NA-129 constituency, which has fallen vacant after the death of Mian Azhar, the father of PTI leader Hammad Azhar. The political committee decided to field a candidate for this seat.
On the instructions of the PTI founder, the party announced its resignation from the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly.
It also decided to resign from the chairmanship and membership of the standing committees with immediate effect.
