OIC meeting: Saudi Arabia demands accountability for Israeli actions
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that Israel’s ongoing violations are undermining international efforts to achieve a two-state solution.
Speaking at an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he emphasised that Israel’s actions conducted without accountability threaten both regional and global security.
The meeting was convened to address the escalating Israeli aggression against Palestinians. Prince Faisal highlighted Israel’s extensive military campaign in the Palestinian enclave, noting recent plans to occupy Gaza City, which have drawn widespread condemnation from the international community.
He called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urged the global community to end the Israeli occupation. The minister expressed support for the mediation efforts of Egypt and Qatar aimed at securing a ceasefire, recalling a brief truce at the beginning of the year that has not been successfully replicated.
Prince Faisal condemned Israeli remarks regarding the “greater Israel vision” and firmly rejected settlement and expansionist projects. He affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
The minister reported that more countries are joining Saudi Arabia’s international initiative to recognise Palestinian statehood.
He urged nations hesitant to condemn Israel’s actions to reconsider their positions and called for increased support for UN agencies operating in Palestinian territories, emphasising the need to empower Palestinian national institutions.
Prince Faisal concluded, “The number of countries recognising a Palestinian state is steadily increasing”.
