Maryam orders urgent evacuation as flood threat looms
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday issued strict directives to ensure the timely evacuation of vulnerable populations as the threat of heavy rains and flooding intensifies across several districts of the province.
She emphasised that all available resources must be deployed to minimise loss of life, instructing that residents of riverside and low-lying areas be immediately relocated to safe places.
The Punjab CM further directed that livestock in rural and flood-hit regions be shifted without delay to protect livelihoods.
Maryam Nawaz ordered round-the-clock monitoring of water levels in the Sutlej and other rivers, with district administrations, Rescue 1122, and all relevant departments placed on high alert in Kasur, Pakpattan, Taunsa Sharif, and other flood-prone areas.
She called for comprehensive arrangements for temporary shelters, food, and medical treatment of victims, while directing that anti-snakebite vaccines be provided on an urgent basis in affected localities.
She warned officials that any negligence in flood relief operations would not be tolerated, stressing that officers must carry out their responsibilities with utmost commitment.
