CM Sindh approves new vehicle number plate policy
The Sindh government has announced that motorcycle and vehicle number plates will now be treated as personal property and directly linked to the owner’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).
According to details, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved a summary from the Excise Department, under which all number plates will remain permanently registered with the CNIC of the first owner.
The Excise Department stated that upon selling a vehicle, the original owner will remove the number plate, which will remain exclusively registered to their CNIC. The buyer will then be required to register the new vehicle online using the same number plate.
Officials added that if an owner wishes to surrender the plate, they may visit the relevant office to cancel the registration.
Government sources said the decision is aimed at curbing vehicle theft, terrorism, and other criminal activities.
Furthermore, data of registered vehicles from the federal government and all four provinces has been integrated to ensure monitoring under a unified system.
