Farhan Ghani, brother of PPP leader and Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, was presented before a special magistrate in Karachi on Sunday in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly assaulting a government official.

The police, who brought Farhan Ghani in tight security, requested the court for transit remand for Farhan Ghani and the other accused.

The court subsequently granted a one-day transit remand and handed them over to the police.

The investigating officer stated that the case fell within the purview of the anti-terrorism court (ATC) and the accused will be presented before the administrative judge of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday.

Earlier, a case was registered at Karachi’s Firozabad police station against Farhan Ghani and others. Farhan Ghani is the chairman of Chanesar Town.

The FIR includes charges of assault, rioting, attempt to murder and threats of grave consequences, and also invokes Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

According to the FIR, the complainant, Hafiz Sohail Ahmed Jadoon, who is a government official, has alleged that he was supervising optical fibre cable work when 20 to 25 people arrived at the scene and verbally abused and tortured him.

Farhan Ghani, Qamar Ahmed Khan, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar and Rohan have been named as accused in the case.

Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani said in a social media post that an altercation had taken place and that it is the complainant’s right to file an FIR.

He added that Farhan Ghani and the other accused would surrender and prove their innocence in court.

Late last night, Farhan Ghani reached the Ferozabad police station to surrender to the police.
