Rains paralyse life in Islamabad, Margalla Hill trails closed
Amid continuing rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the authorities have decided to close trails 2, 3, 4, and 5 in the Margalla Hills for Sunday.
The trail located behind Saidpur Village will also remain closed.
Due to the downpour in Islamabad, streams have overflowed, and the Bhara Kahu area, specifically Athal Chowk, has been submerged.
Rainwater has entered homes and shops, and several vehicles have been stranded. As a result of the rain, the spillways of Rawal Dam have been opened.
In Dera Ismail Khan, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has uprooted trees and snapped power lines in various areas.
In rain-related incidents, including roof collapses, 7 people have lost their lives and 40 have been injured. Low-lying areas have been submerged, while power outages have been reported in several regions.
Meanwhile, rainfall has also been recorded in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, North and South Waziristan, as well as in Azad Kashmir.
In Skardu, heavy rainfall is forecast to start today (Sunday). Due to the forecast, the public and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
There are concerns of increased water flow in the Gilgit River due to the stormy rains, and all hotels located along the river have been closed. Educational institutions near the river will remain closed on Monday.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy rains in most parts of the country until August 30.
