Two nephews of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Shershah Khan and Shahrez Khan, sons of his sister Aleema Khan, have been named as prime suspects in the May 9 Jinnah House attack case.

According to sources, their arrests were made on the basis of concrete evidence.

Officials said the two had been wanted for their alleged role in the violent incidents of May 9, 2023.

Both were taken into custody and booked as central suspects.

Shershah was arrested alongside PTI leader Hassaan Niazi during the attack, sources added.

The FIR registered against Shershah accused him of involvement in arson, vandalism, torching of police vehicles, and assaults on police personnel.

Police said they have video footage placing him at the scene.

Shershah had initially gone underground after the violence and later fled to London, where he remained in hiding for nearly two years.

He was accused of running a digital campaign against the state during his stay abroad. On his return to Pakistan, police arrested him on August 22, 2025.

Shahrez Khan was also arrested for his alleged role in the Jinnah House attack.

His name had earlier appeared in a supplementary investigation report in September 2023.

Police said Shahrez was formally arrested on August 21, 2025, based on evidence, and presented before the court the following day.

The FIR accused him of involvement in arson, vandalism, and attacks on police personnel on May 9, including the burning of police vans. Police have sought a 30-day physical remand for further investigation.

Sources said the May 9 violence amounted to an act of treason and those responsible would be brought to justice.

They added that all remand orders were obtained through proper legal procedures.

Five-day remand for Shershah

On Saturday, police produced Shershah before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore amid tight security.

The ATC’s administrative judge, Manzar Ali Gul, approved a five-day physical remand after police requested custody.

The investigating officer told the court that Shershah was present at the scene, and his presence had been confirmed through video evidence.

Police also requested photogrammetric and polygraphic tests of the suspect.

Defence counsel Barrister Salman Akram Raja objected to the arrest, arguing that Shershah was apprehended 27 months after the incident.

He said courts had previously discharged suspects over delayed arrests, adding: “If this practice continues, the entire city will end up behind bars.”

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, sister of the PTI founder, has said that the only “crime” of her sons is that they belong to the PTI founder’s family.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Aleema Khan stated that both of her sons are currently in custody, and she has been informed that she herself is now going to be arrested.

Aleema Khan said, “Hand down as many sentences as you want — we are ready.”

Responding to a question, she said that those who set state buildings on fire must be punished.
