The Trump administration announced new Iran-related sanctions, targeting 13 entities located in Hong Kong, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Marshall Islands along with eight vessels according to the US Treasury Department.

Among those sanctioned is Greek national Antonios Margaritis and his network of companies and ships, which the Treasury alleges were involved in transporting Iranian oil exports in violation of existing sanctions.

Additionally, the Treasury designated Ares Shipping Limited and Hong Kong Hangshun Shipping Limited, both based in Hong Kong as well as Comford Management in the Marshall Islands.

The sanctions specifically include Panama- flagged crude oil tankers Adeline G and Kongm, along with Lafit, which is registered under the flag of Sao Tome and Principe.

Separately, the State Department imposed sanctions on two China based operators of oil terminals and storage facilities.

These firms, identified as Qingdao Port Haiye Dongjiakao Oil products Co in Shandong province and Yangshan SHengang International Petroleum Storage and Transportation Co in Zhejiang province, were involved in handling imports of Iranian oil aboard tankers previously targeted by US sanctions.

Tensions remain high, as Iran recently suspended talks with Washington regarding its nuclear ambitions following US and Israeli strikes on its nuclear sites in June. Iranian officials have denied any intention to develop atomic weapons.

Iran’s top diplomat stated that the time for “effective” nuclear negotiations with the United States has not yet arrived. He also affirmed that Iran would continue to cooperate with the UN nuclear watchdog.
