Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul on Wednesday on the sidelines of the sixth trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, both leaders discussed political and economic ties and the peace and security situation in the region.

“They noted positive movement in political and economic ties, and reaffirmed commitment to working closely on counter-terrorism and ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.

Dar highlighted a recent surge in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, perpetrated by groups operating from Afghan soil.

He urged the Afghan authorities to take concrete and verifiable measures against entities such as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)/ Majeed Brigade.

The Afghan acting foreign minister reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring its territory was not used by any terrorist group against Pakistan or other nations.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between their countries, a Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

They welcomed the recent elevation of diplomatic representation between the two countries from Chargé d’Affaires to Ambassadorial level, as agreed during the trilateral meeting in Beijing on 21 May 2025.

Reflecting on their recent engagements, including Dar’s visits to Kabul on April 19 April and July 17, and Beijing meeting on May 21, the ministers noted with appreciation that most decisions from these interactions had either been implemented or were nearing completion.

These efforts have significantly strengthened Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, particularly in the areas of trade and transit, they observed.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar arrived in Kabul on Wednesday to attend the 6th trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan.

Ishaq Dar was received by Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Dr Mohammad Naeem, Chief of State Protocol Faisal Jalali, Director-General First Political MoFA Kabul Mufti Noor Ahmad, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani.
