The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has admitted for hearing a petition challenging the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations in schools.

The petition was filed by a student named Danial against the provincial authorities.

Justice Jawadul Hassan, who presided over the case, issued notices to the Punjab education secretary and other relevant parties, requesting their responses.

Danial’s lawyer, Hafiz Waqar Ahmad Awan, argued that the Punjab Education Department extended the school holidays without sufficient justification.

He stated that keeping schools closed for nearly three months jeopardizes the future of children.

During the proceedings, Justice Jawad questioned the rationale behind the government’s decision, remarking, “Courts have remained open even during wars. What is this practice of shutting schools first for summer and then for fog?”

He emphasised that education is a fundamental right guaranteed to every child and that students should not be deprived of it.

The judge also highlighted that parents pay significant fees with the expectation of uninterrupted learning for their children.

The case will proceed once the government responds to the court’s notices.
