OGDCL begins gas supply from Jhal Magsi project to SSGCL
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production firm, has announced the success of its Jhal Magsi Development Project in Balochistan.
The project is now supplying gas to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGCL) network, according to a notice released to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.
The notice stated, “OGDCL is pleased to announce the successful completion and commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project, located in the remote region of Jhal Magsi district, Balochistan”.
The project is currently delivering approximately 14million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline-quality gas, along with 45 barrels per day of condensate.
Gas has been injected into the SSGCL tie-in point. Development activities for the project began in February 2024 after the government approved incentives, including a transition from the 1997 Petroleum Policy to the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy.
The project was prioritised to meet national energy needs and was executed on an accelerated timeline, overcoming various technical and territorial challenges.
The scope of work included the installation of an amine unit, dehydration unit, hot oil package, power generation facilities and gathering systems.
The Jhal Magsi field consists of two wells and is a joint venture, with OGDCL as the operator holding a 56% working interest, while Pakistan Oilfield Limited (POL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) hold 24% and 20%, respectively.
OGDCL emphasised that the successful commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project reflects its commitment to national energy security through the sustainable development of domestic hydrocarbon resources.
Established on October 23, 1997, OGDCL was created to explore and develop oil and gas resources, building on activities previously conducted by the Oil and Gas Development Corporation, which was founded in 1961.
