Pakistan launches major tree plantation campaign to combat climate change
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasised the importance of tree plantation as a national duty to prevent climate disasters.
In their messages on the occasion of the ‘Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign’, the two leaders highlighted that a mere five per cent forest cover is inadequate for effective environmental protection.
Pakistan is currently facing serious threats from climate change, making it essential for every citizen to view tree planting as a responsibility.
The government has announced a campaign to plant 41 million new saplings, marking a significant step toward safeguarding the future.
President Zardari noted that the campaign is crucial in fighting climate change, as trees serve as a vital defence mechanism.
He urged collective responsibility for the campaign’s success, with youth being positioned as ambassadors of change.
PM Sharif stated that the government is celebrating the campaign under various themes this year, reiterating that increasing tree plantation is essential for protecting natural resources.
He called for unity to ensure the success of the tree plantation initiative.
