Rain with thunderstorm forecast for Karachi, other Sindh cities
A new spell of rain is expected to begin in various cities of Sindh from today as powerful monsoon winds have entered the province.
According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rains are expected in most districts of Sindh from August 17 to 19.
Regarding Karachi, the Meteorological Department has forecast that the city’s weather will remain humid and partly cloudy, with chances of rain in the suburban areas.
On Monday, moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in the city, while on Tuesday, heavy rain is likely in some areas.
The Meteorological Department said that rain may continue in Karachi until August 23, with one or two heavy spells, raising concerns of urban flooding.
It also warned that heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning may disrupt daily life. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel.
In addition, moderate to heavy rain and occasional torrential rain have been forecast in Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Nowshera Feroze, Dadu, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Umerkot, Thatta, Badin and Tharparkar.
The Meteorological Department also warned of urban flooding in cities and water accumulation in low-lying areas during the rains.
A low-level flooding has been recorded at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, while the water flow at Kotri Barrage remains normal.
The PDMA Sindh has instructed the district administration to remain alert, while citizens have been advised to stay away from electric poles and weak structures during rain.
Farmers have also been advised to plan their crops and agricultural activities according to the weather forecast.
