Bridge collapse leaves 20 foreign climbers stranded in GB
A mother and her daughter were swept away in a devastating flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the upper village of Katesho in the Kharmang district of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Another woman was injured after being swept away by floodwaters. The area people are facing severe hardships, and relief operations are underway.
On the other hand, a connection bridge in the tourist area of Hushe in Ghanche district was also washed away by the floodwaters, causing the complete suspension of traffic in the area.
According to the Ghanche Deputy Commissioner, the collapse of the bridge has stranded 20 foreign mountaineers and over 40 local porters.
According to the district administration, some of the foreign climbers have been moved to a safe location, while rescue operations are underway to evacuate the remaining people.
Relief workers in the area are facing difficulties as communication links in the flood-affected areas have been damaged.
