Pakistan struggles to chase giant target against West Indies
In the third and decisive match of the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and the West Indies in Trinidad on Tuesday, Pakistan lost three wickets at nine runs while chasing the target.
Jayden Seales took three early wickets, turning Captain Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Abdullah Shafique back to the pavilion. None of them managed to score even a single run.
Babar Azam also lost his wicket at the score of nine on 23 balls, marking the fourth consecutive hunt by Jayden Seales.
Pakistan won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.
West Indies put a gigantic total of 294 runs on the board at the loss of six wickets, thanks to the blistering 120-run knock by Captain Shai Hope.
Shai Hope thrashed 10 fours and five sixes in his stunning inning.
Justin Greaves also smashed Pakistan bowlers in the late overs with 43 runs on just 24 deliveries.
From Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed took two wickets each.
This match will be going to decide the series victor as the three-match series stands at 1-1.
Statistics show that Pakistan have won 10 ODI series against the West Indies over the past 33 years, with the Caribbean side last claiming a series victory over the Green Shirts in the 1991–92 season. Since then, the West Indies have failed to win any ODI series against Pakistan.
If Pakistan win today’s match, they will secure their 11th consecutive ODI series win against the hosts. However, if the West Indies triumph, it will mark their first series victory over Pakistan in 33 years.
The two-time world champions have termed the series crucial for their direct qualification to the next ODI World Cup.
West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 edition in India, the first time in their history that they missed the tournament.
