Punjab on alert as PDMA warns of heavy monsoon rains from August 13-15
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for the seventh spell of monsoon rains, forecasting heavy downpours across most districts of the province between August 13 and 15.
According to the PDMA, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Dera Ghazi Khan are likely to experience intense rainfall, while the upper stretches of the Indus, Chenab, Sutlej, Jhelum, and Ravi rivers may face torrential showers.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert.
He warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, along with flash flooding in streams and nullahs adjoining major rivers.
The authority has directed Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, and other relevant departments to complete all necessary preparations in advance.
“In line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s directives, all concerned agencies have been put on alert,” Kathia said.
In case of emergencies, citizens have been advised to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
