Other countries may also declare BLA, Majeed Brigade as terror outfits: Bilawal
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has said that after the United States, other countries may also declare the BLA and Majeed Brigade as terrorist organisations.
Speaking at an event in Hyderabad, Bilawal said that the US decision to designate the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade (also known as Fitna Al Hindustan) as terrorist organisations is a major success for Pakistan.
“These groups, like the BLA, target innocent civilians,” Bilawal said, adding that during the recent clashes with India the BLA and Majeed Brigade supported Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bilawal maintained that the United States has recognised and endorsed Pakistan’s position, and following this development, it is expected that other countries may also declare these outfits as terrorist organisations.
He said that the government should try to get the United Nations to declare these organisations as terrorist outfits.
It may be noted that a day earlier, the United States declared the banned BLA, Majeed Brigade and all their affiliates as terrorist organisations, stating that these groups were responsible for numerous attacks and the killing of hundreds of Pakistani citizens.
The BLA, operating with backing from the Modi-led Indian government, has been involved in violent attacks across various parts of Pakistan.
Pakistan has been urging the global community for years to declare these groups as international terrorist entities.
Foreign Office welcomes US move
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Tuesday welcomed the United States’ decision to designate the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade as foreign terrorist organisations, adding that the Majeed Brigade is an alias of BLA.
Pakistan had proscribed the Majeed Brigade as a terrorist entity since 18 July 2024.
The BLA/Majeed Brigade is involved in multiple terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the heinous Jaffer Express terrorist incident and the Khuzdar bus attack that resulted in the loss of precious lives, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said in a statement.
He said that Pakistan remained a steadfast bulwark against terrorism.
“Our sacrifices have secured critical counter-terrorism successes, not only for the country, but for regional stability and global security,” he added.
The spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan remained unwavering in its resolve to protect its citizens and eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, besides being committed to cooperating with the international community to overcome this common challenge.
