‘Golden’ becomes first all-women collective song to reach No. 1 in 24 years
HUNTR/X’s song “Golden” has ascended to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first all-women collective of three or more members to achieve this feat in 24 years, following Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious” in August 2001.
The uplifting track, featuring vocals from EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, is part of the soundtrack for Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters.
This milestone marks the group’s inaugural Hot 100 leader and makes them the first female K-pop act to reach this position.
“Golden” is also the ninth song associated with Korean pop to top the chart, joining previous hits like BTS’s six chart-toppers from 2020 to 2021, as well as “Seven” by Jung Kook featuring Latto and “Like Crazy” by Jimin in 2023.
Additionally, “Golden” stands out as the first Hot 100 No. 1 by an act with a fictional background since Disney’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which dominated the chart for five weeks in 2022.
In the tracking week of August 1–7, the single achieved 31.7 million official streams in the United States, a 9% increase from the prior week. It also recorded a 71% rise in radio airplay audience impressions, totaling 8.4 million, and sold 7,000 downloads, up 35%.
The track continues to lead the Billboard Soundtracks chart for a seventh week, enhancing its chances for an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category, for which it has been submitted.
In a groundbreaking move for a Netflix release, KPop Demon Hunters will also be shown in cinemas later this month, with select Regal Theatres hosting sing-along screenings on August 23 and 24, marking the film’s first major theatrical release.
