Khawaja Shamsul Islam murder case: Sindh seeks KP’s help to arrest suspects
Sindh police on Monday sought assistance from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to arrest 11 suspects in the prominent lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam’s murder case.
According to the Sindh Home Department, a formal letter has been sent to the KP government requesting cooperation in apprehending and transferring the suspects to Karachi.
A special police team has already been formed for the operation.
The letter states that the suspects are believed to be residing or hiding in KP.
Those wanted include Imran Afridi son of Nabi Gul Afridi, Zarar Afridi son of Nabi Gul Afridi, Inan Khan son of Nabi Gul, Usman Afridi son of Shireen Afridi, Taqdeer son of Azam Gul, Bahar Gul son of Azam Gul, Khasta Gul son of Azam Gul, Shehryar son of Bahar Gul, Islam Nawaz son of Bahar Gul, Muhammad Hassan son of Sharifullah, and Muhammad Dawood son of Zaimat Gul.
The Sindh government has urged full cooperation in transferring the suspects to Karachi.
Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 area when an assailant ambushed him as he exited a mosque after prayers. His son and another person were also injured in the attack.
Police identified the gunman as Imran Afridi, the son of the slain lawyer’s former security guard. According to DIG South Syed Asad Raza, the suspect had also attacked Shamsul Islam a few months earlier, accusing him of orchestrating his father’s killing.
