Karachi records 538 traffic fatalities in 7 months of 2025

At least 222 Karachi residents lost their lives in accidents involving heavy vehicles in the first seven months of 2025, while in total 538 people fell victim to traffic accidents in the same period.

The statistics of traffic accidents present a horrifying picture. Reckless truck drivers have claimed 60 lives, while trailers have taken 48 lives. Rumbling water tankers caused the death of 44 people.

Similarly, buses have claimed 25 lives, dumpers 22, minibuses 11, and oil tankers and coaches have taken 6 lives each, leaving mourning families behind. Pickup trucks have caused 15 deaths, cars 58, and jeeps 5.

Unidentified vehicles proved to be deadly for 103 individuals. The victims included 274 motorcyclists, 179 pedestrians, 52 women and 68 children.

The district-wise situation is no less than a war zone. In Malir, 174 lives were lost, 136 in districts West and Keamari, 77 in District Central, 52 each in East and Korangi districts and 44 in District South.

Karachi’s roads have become a death trap for its citizens, with uncontrollable traffic continuing to claim precious lives.

If the situation is not brought under control, the coming months could prove to be more deadly.
