Second illegal organ transplant case in Rawalpindi in a week, police rescue young man
A second illegal organ transplant case has emerged in Rawalpindi within a week, as police in the Rawat area intervened to rescue a young man who had been bound to a stretcher and was allegedly being prepared for an organ removal procedure.
According to the police, while conducting routine patrols in the Rawat area, they heard screams coming from a nearby house. Acting swiftly, officers raided the house and discovered the victim, identified as Hanan Zahid, bound with ropes on a stretcher.
The young man was reportedly lured by a job offer, and once he arrived at the location, he was drugged with an intoxicating drink in preparation for the illegal removal of his kidney.
One suspect, Zafar Khan, was arrested at the scene, while six other accomplices managed to escape, taking advantage of the darkness of the night.
The fleeing suspects are believed to include Dr Manzoor, a surgeon from Hazro, Attock, Dr Amir from Mansehra, OT Assistant Imran, Assistant Gul Nawaz, and two others identified as Zaid and Rafiq.
The police have launched an extensive manhunt for the absconding individuals and are continuing their raids to apprehend them.
This incident comes just days after a similar operation was disrupted by the Airport Police on August 2. That raid led to the arrest of a four-member gang involved in illegal organ transplants.
The arrested suspects revealed that the gang had been trafficking kidneys from unsuspecting individuals, selling them to both local and foreign buyers.
Authorities have expressed their commitment to intensifying efforts to curb this illegal and inhuman practice, ensuring justice for the victims and bringing all involved parties to justice.
