The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert for the sixth spell of monsoon rains, expected to begin from August 5, warning of above-average rainfall across most districts of the province.

According to PDMA Punjab, this upcoming spell is likely to bring more intense rains than those recorded last month, raising concerns over moderate to high-level flooding in the rivers Chenab and Jhelum.

In response, the Relief Commissioner of Punjab has directed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant district administrations to stay vigilant and ensure advance preparedness.

Instructions have also been issued to civil defence, rescue services, and other emergency departments to finalise contingency measures.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that in line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s directives, emergency control rooms and disaster response teams of civil defence and Rescue 1122 have been placed on high alert.

Kathia further cautioned that landslides are likely in Murree and Galiyat, while urban flooding and flash floods could disrupt low-lying areas.

Citizens have been advised to stay at safe locations during heavy rainfall and avoid crossing flowing water in vehicles under any circumstances.
