PTI’s Mashal Yousafzai wins Senate by-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In the Senate by-elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, PTI’s candidate Mashal Yousafzai has been elected as a senator, securing 86 votes.
She won the seat vacated by former PTI Senator Dr Sania Nishter.
Her main opponent, opposition candidate Mehtab Zafar, received 53 votes, while independent candidate Saima Khalid secured one vote. Two votes were rejected during the counting process.
The polling continued until 4pm in the provincial assembly, where a total of 145 members were eligible to vote.
During the voting process, an attempt to take a ballot paper outside the premises was thwarted by the authorities.
The PTI currently holds 92 seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, while the opposition controls 53 seats.
To win the Senate seat, a candidate was required to secure at least 73 votes.
