Kasim Khan, son of PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that he is “looking to America at the moment” for support for his jailed father.

In an interview with US media outlet Real America’s Voice, he said that a lot of people in the United States have expressed concern about his father’s cases.

“It seems like it might be the only route out at the moment,” he added.

He claimed that authorities in Pakistan were not responding to concerns expressed by human rights organisations towards his father’s plight and jail cases.

When asked about his meeting with US President Donald Trump’s adviser Richard Grenell, Kasim said, “Grenell was kind to spend time with us. We spoke at length and I am very hopeful after the meeting”.

However, Kasim refused to divulge details of his meeting with Trump’s adviser, only saying he was very hopeful.

Referring to the conditions in his father’s jail cell, Kasim said that the state of his cell is awful.

“My father showers in muddy water. It is not unfiltered, but it is really dirty,” he added.

Right now, my father is in really, really poor condition, Kasim said and alleged that 10 people in jail had died due to poor hygienic conditions.

Claiming that his father is in solitary confinement, Kasim regretted that authorities were not allowing him to speak with his father.

“My father is facing over 200 cases, and whenever a case against him is turned down, four or five more cases are filed against him,” Kasim claimed.

Referring to the treatment being meted out to his father, Kasim claimed his father went 10 days without any light in his cell,“ calling it a ‘torture tactic’.

Kasim pointed out that despite being in jail, his father was able to win a large number of votes in the last election.

Despite the underhand tactics authorities used to rig elections, my father won a two-thirds majority, he said.

“I am not a politician, I am not looking to be a politician, I am just looking to get him out of the jail,” he said.
