Commotion in Punjab Assembly: PTI lawmaker slaps govt member
The Punjab Assembly on Monday witnessed chaos and fell into disarray when a heated exchange between opposition and treasury benches escalated into a physical altercation.
During the scuffle, opposition lawmaker Khalid Nisar Dogar slapped government member Ehsan Riaz, after which the session was adjourned for 5 minutes.
The incident happened during a discussion between Deputy Opposition Leader Moin Qureshi and Acting Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Chanar when PTI member Khalid Nisar Dogar got up from his seat, walked over to PML-N member Ehsan Riaz, and slapped him.
The unexpected assault caused a huge commotion in the House. During the incident, provincial minister Zeeshan Rafiq also became part of the scuffle.
Law Minister Sohaib Bharath, Ashiq Kirmani and other members tried to intervene, but the atmosphere remained tense.
Acting Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chanar made repeated attempts to bring the situation under control and urged members to exercise restraint.
However, when the disorder continued, he announced the adjournment of the session for 5 minutes.
It is worth mentioning that in June, 26 opposition members were suspended by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan for protesting during Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech in the House.
Both sides later agreed not to use offensive language against each other in the future.
