Senior PML-M leader Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that the recent party meeting in Murree discussed measures to involve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in the federal government’s efforts against terrorism.

Speaking in Aaj TV’s programme Rubaru, Khurram Dastgir said that the meeting discussed measures against terrorism, while the federal government deliberated on bringing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on board in the fight against terrorism.

He also stressed that this is the time for much-needed reforms after victory in the Marka-e-Haq.

Khurram Dastgir said that the party’s reorganisation matters also came under discussion, adding that the meeting also reviewed measures to remove misunderstandings that have arisen over budgetary measures.

Responding to a question, the PML-N leader said that the opposition tried to create instability, but the government controlled the situation through tolerance.

“It would be good if the opposition holds peaceful protests. However, if it resorts to violence, the government is prepared for that as well.”

To another question, Khurram Dastgir said there is no political instability in the country.

Khurram Dastgir said that the Murree meeting discussed collaboration with the KP government against terrorism, which must be eradicated.

“Efforts will be made to take joint action against terrorism. However, if the provincial government does nothing to protect the lives of the people, then the federal government will have to step in and play its role,” he added.

When asked about legal cases against opposition leaders, the former federal minister maintained that the accused, planners and facilitators of the May 9 riots must be punished.

“The May 9 incident was not just a political protest. No group is allowed to attack the state with weapons. Lessons should be learned from the sacrifices of 80,000 people,” he remarked.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Changla Gali, where he held talks with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Detailed consultations were held on key domestic and political issues in the meeting. On this occasion, several leaders of the PML-N also met Nawaz Sharif.
