A new spell of monsoon will begin across the country from tomorrow (Monday), the Meteorological Department said in a forecast on Sunday.

In a statement, the Meteorological Department said there is a possibility of rain in Islamabad as well as various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab from July 28 to 31.

There are also chances of flooding in rivers and low-lying areas in cities.

Balochistan will experience rains from July 29 to 31, while Sindh cities will receive rains from July 30 to 31.

Low-lying areas in various cities may be submerged, while landslides may occur in the upper areas, it said.

According to the Meteorological Department, tourists and travellers should plan their trip according to the weather.

On the other hand, the flood continued to wreak havoc in Gilgit Baltistan, where rainwater entered Danyor tehsil, destroying many houses on the riverbank, and damaging crops standing on hundreds of kanals of land.

In Chilas-Thak Babusar, flash flood has destroyed several houses, washed away livestock, and submerged hundreds of kanals of agricultural land.

The Pakistan Army, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, and other agencies are engaged in rescue operations to search for missing persons.

The Pakistan Army is using a modern ground surveillance radar system to identify people who may be trapped or swept away in difficult-to-reach areas.

According to the Met Department, a monsoon system is present across Punjab, including Lahore, but light rain is expected rather than heavy showers.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for the fifth spell of monsoon from July 28 to 31.

In this regard, all civic institutions were actively working to protect citizens from any unexpected situation.

According to the DG PDMA, 151 people died and 538 were injured in various accidents during the current monsoon.

At least 121 livestock were killed and 209 houses were affected during the monsoon.

There is low-level flooding in the Indus River at Kalabagh and Tarbela, while there is medium-level flooding at Taunsa.
