PTI workers being selectively punished, says Aleema Khan

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has said that the people will now have to come out themselves for freedom, saying the people should not wait for the movement to start only when the founder is released.

Talking to the media along with her two sisters outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan said that everyone would come out on August 5.

“The plan is in place. PTI workers were being selectively punished. Clearly, someone is afraid,” she stated.

“The hearing in the Toshakhana II case was scheduled for today. We were not allowed to attend the hearing despite being present outside the jail since 11am. Around 8 to 9 people from the prosecution side were allowed to go inside. How can a lawyer attend the hearing without his team? We have been waiting outside the jail for four hours,” she added.

Aleema questioned the fairness of the legal process, saying how can this be a fair trial when lawyers are not allowed inside?

“The judge has ordered that both family and lawyers be allowed. You can now see the effects of the 26th Amendment – the orders of the judges are being ignored. Even the judges seem helpless. The justice system and the judges have been rendered powerless. That’s why Imran Khan called for a movement to start,” she said, adding that the founder has asked the people to stand up for their rights.

She said that PTI workers were being selectively punished. Some elements are scared. My lawyers told me to secure bail, because I might be arrested, she remarked.

“We are not afraid of those who are scared of us. They fear even a single word of Imran Khan reaching the outside world. The founder is repeatedly demanding CCTV footage of the May 9 events. Now the people will have to come out themselves for freedom. We should not wait for the founder to come out to begin the movement,” Aleema added.

Aleema Khan further said that the party’s job is to issue a plan of action. The people have to come out themselves.

“When August 5 comes, we will respond accordingly. There is no room for doubt. I have always said that everyone will take to streets. The plan is ready,” she added.
