Heavy rains, strong winds expected in Azad Kashmir and Punjab
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Kashmir issued a warning of heavy rains and strong winds from July 27 to 31.
According to the advisory, the areas that are expected to receive rain includes districts of Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley, Hattian Bala, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Sidhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur may be gripped by heavy rains, resulting in overflowing of rivers, floods and landslides.
The SDMA has also directed the public, tourists and government institutions to be prepared for any emergency and recommended to take precautionary measures to protect hilly areas, mud houses, weak walls, pillars, signboards and solar panels from possible damage, while citizens have been urged not to go near rivers and dangerous places.
In Punjab, an alert has been issued for the fifth spell of monsoon. According to the PDMA, heavy rains are expected in most districts of the province from July 28 to 31. Urban flooding has been forecast in major cities like Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
According to the Met Office, rains are also predicted in the districts of Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Bhakkar, Rajanpur, D.G. Khan and Bahawalpur.
Instructions have been issued to all concerned agencies to remain alert and ensure safety measures.
Authorities have warned that the next few days may bring severe weather conditions, so the public should take precautionary measures and contact the local administration immediately in case of any emergency.
