The Sindh government has issued an official notification deciding to completely abolish parking fees in Karachi.

The Local Government Department has imposed a complete ban on parking fees in 25 towns, on the instructions given by Sindh government. On the request of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, this decision has been implemented immediately in the public interest.

Under the instructions of Sindh government, parking fees will no longer be collected anywhere on the roads of Karachi.

From now on it will be collected only in specific plazas, plots or areas specified by the town councils. Parking on all major highways, including the city’s 46 main roads, has now become completely free.

Local Government Department issued instructions to all municipal commissioners and town municipal corporations to ensure immediate implementation of the abolition of parking fees.

According to officials, if any institution or person is found illegally collecting fees from citizens, strict legal action will be taken against them.

Murtaza Wahab also termed the decision as a great convenience for the public and said that removing the additional financial burden on the citizens was his top priority.

He said that ‘the mafia was active on the roads of Karachi under the guise of parking fees, which has now been completely eliminated.’

The Sindh government has directed the immediate implementation of the new policy on parking fees. He has given a clear message to the concerned institutions that no compromise will be made on public convenience.

Apart from KMC, no institution will now be authorized to charge parking fees on the city’s roads.

Citizens welcomed the decision and called it a great convenience in the era of inflation. Action has been initiated against the parking mafia and citizens have been appealed to identify those who collect illegal fees.
