UNSC adopts peace resolution sponsored by Pakistan
Pakistan has secured a historic and diplomatic success in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In a resolution calling for the peaceful settlement of disputes adopted under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
This resolution was submitted under Chapter VI of the UN Charter, which calls upon member states to adopt peaceful means, diplomatic dialogue, mediation and confidence-building measures to resolve international disputes.
Ishaq Dar made intensive diplomatic contacts in the United Nations over the past two days to approve this resolution, as a result of which all permanent and non-permanent members fully agreed on Pakistan’s resolution.
The resolution was adopted at a time when the world is facing the Russia-Ukraine war, Israeli aggression in Gaza, Israel-Iran-US tensions and India’s continuous threats of war against Pakistan, which is why it is being given great importance in international diplomatic circles.
Ishaq Dar’s a blunt stance on Kashmir, Palestine and the Indus Waters Treaty
On this occasion, Ishaq Dar delivered an impressive speech while presiding over an open debate on the topic of “Peaceful Settlement of Disputes” in the United Nations Security Council. He termed the Kashmir issue as one of the oldest unresolved disputes of the Security Council and stressed that its solution should be found in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He strongly criticised India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and said that this is an attempt by India to cut off water for more than 240 million people of Pakistan, which is unacceptable in any case.

Israeli atrocities on Palestine and the criminal silence of the United Nations
The Foreign Minister expressed grave concern over the ongoing Israeli bombing in Gaza and said that more than 58,000 Palestinians have been martyred, a large number of whom are women and children.
He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with pre-1967 borders and Jerusalem as its capital, is inevitable.

5-point formula for peaceful resolution of conflicts
Ishaq Dar presented 5 points for peaceful resolution of conflicts, including full implementation of the UN Charter, non-discriminatory implementation of resolutions, regional partnerships, an effective role of the Office of the Secretary-General, and UN intervention in case of refusal of bilateral negotiations.
He said that violation of international law, double standards, and political use of human rights have undermined the credibility of the UN, of which clear examples are occupied Kashmir and Palestine.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also addressed
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres thanked Ishaq Dar for chairing the debate and said that the world is suffering from serious conflicts today and their peaceful resolution is the primary responsibility of this Council.
He termed the Israeli military operation in Gaza as regrettable and said that tensions are increasing due to non-implementation of international laws.

Ishaq Dar’s message: Pakistan is a proponent of peace, but peace is not possible through unilateral efforts
In his closing address, Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan is keen on peace, but this cannot be a unilateral effort. Negotiations, mutual seriousness and intention are necessary from both sides.
He said that Pakistan will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council under international law, the UN Charter and multilateral principles.
