11 arrested in Margat double murder case, key suspect still at large
Authorities have made significant headway in the investigation into the brutal double murder of a man and a woman in Balochistan’s Margat area, with eleven of the twenty named suspects now in custody, while the victim Mah Bano’s brother, Jalal Khan, remains at large.
The Balochistan High Court is hearing the high-profile case today, with a division bench led by Chief Justice Rozi Khan Bareech overseeing the proceedings.
The court has taken suo motu notice of the incident and issued notices to the Inspector General of Police and the Additional Secretary of Interior, demanding explanations. These notices were sent out yesterday.
According to the investigation, a case was registered against eight identified and fifteen unidentified individuals. So far, eleven of the suspects have been arrested.
Among them is a key accused, Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai, who was presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court yesterday and was remanded in police custody for two days. The remaining suspects are being produced in court today.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem reports of the victims were released yesterday. The 37-year-old woman, Mah Bano, was shot seven times in the head, chest, and abdomen, while 36-year-old Ehsanullah sustained nine bullet wounds to his chest and abdomen.
Initially, Mah Bano was buried in the Degari Qadir Bakhsh Coal Mines cemetery and Ehsanullah in the Sanjdi cemetery. Following a court order, both graves were exhumed, and the remains were collected for forensic examination, which was completed yesterday.
The incident has caused widespread fear across the province. Human rights organizations have strongly condemned the killings, labeling them as ‘honour killings’ and have demanded a transparent investigation.
The court is closely monitoring the progress of the case, and further arrests are expected in the coming days.
