Karachi’s Additional District and Sessions Court (South) has initiated proceedings on a petition calling for the registration of a murder case over the mysterious death of model and actress Humaira Asghar, with police submitting a preliminary report in response.

The petition, filed by noted lawyer Shahzaib Sohail Advocate, alleges that Humaira Asghar was murdered and demands a formal case and full investigation.

The police, in their preliminary report, confirmed that they had contacted the deceased’s family and completed a post-mortem.

However, they stated that further legal action would be taken after receiving the final forensic report.

During the hearing, the court instructed authorities to determine whether the victim’s family wished to pursue a case and directed that a detailed report be submitted by August 16.

Petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Badala Ahad, raised several concerns before the court. He revealed that although Humaira Asghar reportedly died on October 7, her mobile phone remained active until February.

He noted that while the phone stayed on, calls from her makeup artist went unanswered and her WhatsApp display picture was later deleted raising further suspicions.

The lawyer urged the court to summon the makeup artist, include Humaira’s brother and other family members in the investigation, and treat the blood samples mentioned in the police report as grounds to classify the case as murder.

The investigating officer stated that if substantial evidence comes to light, the police would themselves proceed with registering a case.

The SSP South and SHO Gizri have been named as respondents in the petition. The court has adjourned the hearing until August 16, ordering relevant authorities to submit a comprehensive report by that date.
