Cloud burst triggers emergency on Babusar Top, adjacent areas
An emergency situation has occurred in Babusar Top and adjacent areas due to heavy rains and cloudburst.
According to a report issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), landslides and flash floods caused by the cloudburst have wreaked havoc in the area, where roads and paths have been completely blocked at 14 to 15 places.
A huge landslide at Babusar fell on a tourist vehicle due to the landslide, as a result of which at least twenty people were buried under the debris. So far, the bodies of three people have been recovered. The affected people are said to be from South Punjab. One injured person is being given medical treatment at the Regional Headquarters Hospital in Chilas.
Meanwhile, three people, including a woman, died in the flood in Chilas. According to the NDMA, tourists stranded at different places have been rescued and shifted to safe places in Chilas, while work is underway to remove several stranded vehicles from the debris.
Traffic on the Karakoram Highway has also been suspended at Lal Pahari and Thatha Pani points due to landslides, while the Sadpara road leading to Deosai has also been closed, leaving hundreds of tourists stranded.
On the other hand, the flood relay in the village of Ragyol, a suburb of Skardu, has caused severe damage to fields and gardens.
The highway has been closed due to large rocks falling from a mountain at Son Kahuta between Rawalpindi, Rawalakot and Palandri, while a vehicle was swept away in the flood in the Kabal area of Swat, however, locals took timely action and rescued the passengers.
According to the NDMA, the situation is being continuously monitored and relief operations are underway. The public has been advised to avoid traveling to the affected areas.
