Noor Mukadam case: Medical board sought for convict Zahir Jaffer
Preparations are underway to constitute a medical board on the clemency appeal of Zahir Jaffer, the convict in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
The Superintendent of Adiala Jail has written a letter to the PIMS administration requesting the formation of the medical board, while PIMS officials have also confirmed the recommendation to establish the board.
According to sources, the decision to form a medical board has been made in response to Zahir Jaffer’s appeal for clemency to the president of Pakistan, following his death sentence in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
The superintendent of Adiala Jail, in his letter to the PIMS administration, requested the formation of a medical board to assess Zahir Jaffer’s mental condition.
The letter recommends that the board include psychiatrists.
The sources said that action is being taken after questions were raised about Zahir Jaffer’s mental state.
The letter bears the signatures of the superintendent, the medical officer, and a psychiatrist.
Meanwhile, PIMS officials have also confirmed the recommendation to form a board comprising psychiatrists.
