Jamaat-e-Islami chief collapses twice during Dhaka rally for electoral reforms
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, collapsed twice while addressing a major rally in Dhaka, overshadowing the party’s call for electoral reforms.
According to eyewitnesses, Dr. Rahman first fainted mid-speech, prompting an immediate response from party leaders and workers on stage who helped him up. Despite the health scare, he resumed his address but collapsed again shortly afterward.
He later managed to complete his speech while seated, assuring supporters that if Jamaat-e-Islami were given the opportunity to govern, it would act as a servant of the people, not a ruler.
Following the event, Dr. Rahman was transferred to a hospital for medical attention.
Thousands braved intense heat to attend the rally, where participants called for reforms including changes to the seat distribution system and the implementation of proportional representation.
