The Met Office has forecasts more rains in the federal capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It has prompted local administration to open the spillways of Rawal Dam to reduce the water pressure in the Rawal Dam.

According to the administration, the water level in Rawal Dam has reached 1748.40 feet, while under safety measures the level will be brought to 1746 feet. The water storage capacity of the dam is up to 1752 feet, in view of which it was decided to open the spillways.

According to the spokesperson, safety sirens were sounded before opening the spillways so that citizens of nearby residential areas could be warned in time.

The administration has directed citizens to avoid unnecessary movement around rivers and dams and follow precautionary measures.

The Met Office has predicted more rain in the next 24 hours and has directed the relevant institutions to remain alert. The risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas due to the rains is also being expressed.

Secretary Emergency Services Punjab Rizwan Naseer made a worrying revelation regarding the rains, saying that 119 people have died across Punjab due to rains in the recent season.
