Punjab declares rain emergency: Swimming, bathing banned amid flood

NDMA releases detail of the losses from June 26 to July 17

In response to the severe rains and flooding in Punjab, authorities have declared a rain emergency and imposed a ban on all forms of swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, and lakes.

Additionally, bathing in rainwater collected in streets, roads, and open areas will also be prohibited under Section 144.

According to the Met Office, 252 mm of rain fell at Kachhari in Rawalpindi, 247 mm at Golmandi, 234 mm at Katarian, 215 mm at Chaklala, 209 mm at Pir Wadhai and 174 mm at Shamsabad. In addition, 238 mm of rain fell at Islamabad Airport, 197 mm at Bokada, 182 mm at Golra, 173 mm at Zero Point, 155 mm at Saidpur, 178 mm at Chakwal, 59 mm at Okara, 44 mm at Murree, 36 mm at Mandi Bahauddin, 34 mm at Sheikhupura, 28 mm at Mangla and 22 mm at Jhelum.

The NDMA released details of the losses from June 26 to July 17, according to which the death toll in the ongoing rains across the country has reached 178 while 491 people have been injured in accidents.

According to the NDMA, 103 people, including 50 children, were killed and 385 injured in Punjab, 38 people were killed and 57 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20 people were killed and 40 injured in Sindh, 16 people were killed and 4 injured in Balochistan, while one person died in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, rain-bearing clouds will enter Sindh today and rain is expected in various cities of the province including Karachi.

Citizens have been appealed to take precautionary measures and follow the instructions of the relevant institutions.
