President Donald Trump underwent a comprehensive medical examination, which revealed a common vein disorder but cleared him of more serious health issues, the White House announced on Thursday.

In response to speculation following photos of Trump with swollen ankles, the White House shared the 79-year-old president’s medical information. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump had noticed the swelling in recent weeks and was evaluated by the White House medical unit.

He was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, described by Leavitt as a “benign and common condition, especially in individuals over 70.”

This condition occurs when leg veins are damaged, leading to restricted circulation and blood pooling in the legs, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Approximately 1 in 20 adults are affected, with the risk increasing with age.

Leavitt emphasized that Trump is not experiencing any pain from this condition. She also addressed visible bruises on the back of Trump’s hands, attributing them to irritation from frequent handshaking and his aspirin regimen.

The medical exam found no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. Trump’s blood test results were within “normal limits,” and an echocardiogram confirmed “normal cardiac structure and function,” with no indications of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness.

Leavitt reassured that bruising on Trump’s hands is a common side effect of regular aspirin use, part of his “standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.” She concluded by stating, “The president remains in excellent health, which I think all of you witness on a daily basis here.”

White House physician Sean Barbabella noted in an April memo that Trump “remains in excellent physical health” and is “fully fit” to fulfill the duties of the presidency.
