The negotiation panels from both the government and opposition have agreed to reinstate the suspended members of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly after the dialogues concluded successfully.

Panels from the government and opposition held a meeting to discuss the matter on Thursday.

Both sides consented to restore the suspended lawmakers. The parties also agreed to refrain from using offensive or inappropriate language during assembly proceedings.

Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, emphasised that the committee’s decisions are final and binding.

He asserted that disrespectful behaviour would no longer be tolerated in the house.

“While the opposition has the right to protest, it must do so within constitutional bounds,” he said.

Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman confirmed that the matter of reinstating the 26 MPAs will be addressed by the Speaker, enabling the suspended members to vote in the upcoming Senate elections.

He added that the Speaker would issue a detailed ruling under Articles 63 and 64 of the Constitution.

The case regarding MPA Raheela Khadim Hussain, however, was not on the agenda and will be handled separately by the Speaker.

“The outcome of today’s session is positive,” said Shuja-ur-Rehman. “There is now a consensus between the government and the opposition. The sanctity of the House will be maintained, and no sloganeering will be tolerated, even during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech.”

Chaudhry Shafay Hussain called for resolving matters through consensus and avoiding the use of foul language.

Shoaib Siddiqui, another government representative, stated that opposition voices would be heard as per assembly rules.

“Criticism is welcome, but it must be constructive. Fighting and abusive language only damage personal dignity. A new tone and culture will define future sessions,” he said.

Speaking to the media, Opposition Leader Ahmad Khan Bhachar said that this was the third round of talks with the government and both sides had presented suggestions.

“It was agreed to reactivate the Advisory Committee and the previously inactive Ethics Committee. The house will now function under the Ethics Committee and Rule 223,” he said.

Bhachar added, “Abuse will not be tolerated. If our members are reinstated, that’s fine. If not, we will set up a parallel assembly outside the Punjab Assembly building. We haven’t apologised, nor have we demanded any apology.”

The meeting was attended by opposition leaders Ahmad Khan Bhachar, Moeen Qureshi, PTI Parliamentary Leader Ali Imtiaz Warraich, and Chief Whip Rana Shehbaz, while the government side was represented by Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Chaudhry Shafay, Iftikhar Chhachhar, and Shoaib Siddiqui.

Sources confirmed that the meeting primarily focused on reinstating the suspended members and improving the overall atmosphere of the assembly.
