A tragic incident took place in the Akbari Gate area of Lahore when the roof of a dilapidated building collapsed, killing three members of the same family.

According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred due to the sudden collapse of the dilapidated building. Zulfiqar Ali’s wife, son and grandson lost their lives after being buried under the rubble, while Zulfiqar himself miraculously survived. His daughter Iram Shahzadi had come out of the house moments before the accident, due to which she was saved.

The rescue operation continued for about 12 hours, during which narrow streets, hanging electric wires and rain made it difficult to remove the debris.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains continue in force in Punjab. According to a spokesperson for the PDMA, heavy rains have been predicted in several districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Murree, Sialkot, Jhelum, and DG Khan.

Flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas have been reported. DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has directed all concerned agencies to remain in the field and immediately drain water from low-lying areas.

After heavy rains in Rawalpindi for the past 15 hours, the district administration has imposed a rain emergency and announced a one-day holiday. According to the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, more than 230 mm of rain has been recorded in the city, causing severe flooding in Nala Lai and Darya Sawan.

Low-lying areas have been flooded due to heavy rains in Chaklala, Bokra and Golra. The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the citizens not to leave their homes unnecessarily.

On the other hand, 25 people were trapped in the flood relay in Burhan Nala and Dhok Badir areas of Jhelum, out of which 10 people were safely rescued by the Pakistan Army using helicopters. Life jackets have been provided to other affected people and rescue operations are underway.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed report on the loss of life and property due to monsoon rains, according to which 63 citizens have died and more than 290 have been injured in various accidents and incidents in the last 24 hours.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, 15 deaths were reported in Lahore, 9 in Faisalabad, 5 in Sahiwal, 9 in Okara and 3 in Pakpattan. According to the agency, 103 citizens have died in the rains so far this year while 393 have been injured.

The report states that 128 houses were completely or partially damaged during the monsoon, while 6 livestock have also died. Initial assessment of the damage in the affected areas is underway.

According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, immediate and best medical assistance is being provided to the injured on the special instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister. Along with this, the process of providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased has also been started under the policy.

PDMA has directed all district deputy commissioners, WASA, municipal bodies and Rescue 1122 to remain active in the field, especially in low-lying areas, in view of possible hazards such as flood hazards and landslides.

PDMA has appealed to the public not to leave their homes unnecessarily, follow the instructions of the administration and immediately inform Rescue 1122 or the local administration in any emergency situation.
