At least 30 people lost their lives and more than 50 were injured after night-long torrential rain lashed Punjab cities, including Lahore.

The rains caused widespread destruction, severely hampering routine life in many cities.

Lahore bore the brunt of the devastation, with 16 fatalities — including women and children — due to roof collapses, electrocution, and other rain-induced accidents.

According to official reports, in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Baig area, five members of a family perished when their house collapsed.

In Mominpura, three lives were lost, while Mission Colony and Kot Jamal each reported two fatalities, and two children died from electrocution in Harbanspura.

In Faisalabad, roof collapse incidents claimed four lives, including a couple.

Four deaths each were reported from Raiwind and Faisalabad, while Sheikhupura, Shahkot, Arifwala, and Nankana Sahib also reported one death each.

Two more deaths were reported from Burewala and Okara.

A rise in casualty figures is feared as more reports come in from affected districts.

A large number of injured have been taken to hospitals in Kasur, Renala Khurd, and other rain-hit areas, where emergency services have been mobilised.
