PTI, opposition hold talks to elect KP Senate candidates unopposed
The backdoor contacts between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and opposition parties regarding the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have intensified.
The leaders of both sides are considering devising a strategy to ensure unopposed victory of all candidates to prevent the chance of horse trading and keep the electoral process transparent.
Sources said the opposition has demanded a share of 5 out of 11 Senate seats up for grabs in the province, while the PTI is consulting its leadership on the issue.
Some party leaders seem willing to accept the proposal, however, some members are still adamant on regular elections.
The sources have said that efforts are underway to reach a consensus between the two sides and it is likely that the matter will be settled by this evening or tomorrow.
If an agreement is reached, all candidates on the 11 seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Senate elections can be elected unopposed, which will eliminate concerns of possible horse trading.
