Lahore: Monsoon rain continues with intensity
In Lahore, third spell of monsoon began on July 14, rain continues to pour down intermittently.
However, these rains have provided relief from heatwave. They have also resulted in tragic accidents.
Yesterday, an incident occurred in the Thokar Niaz Baig area, where the roof of the house collapsed, it resulted in the death of five family members.
According to rescue team, the deceased includes 60-year-old Manga, his 55-year-old wife Ishrat, their granddaughters 3-year-old Khadija and 4-year-old Lateefa, and their 35-year-old daughter-in-law Rani.
The head of the household, 30-year-old Faisal, and his 5-year-old daughter Babli were injured and have been rushed to the hospital.
In similar incident in Kot Jamal Pura area of Lahore, a house roof collapsed due to the rain, it lead to the death of three individuals and injured one. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Nasreen, 8-year-old Meherb, and 80-year-old elderly Bashir.
According to a spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the heavy rainfall, which persisted for four hours, led to water accumulation in multiple areas across the city. Samanabad received the highest recorded rainfall at 147 mm, followed by Lakshmi Chowk with 125 mm, Upper Mall with 115 mm, and Tajpura and Pani Wala Talab with 122 mm.
Other notable measurements included 100 mm in Nishtar Town, 68 mm on Jail Road, 103 mm in Farukh Abad, 57 mm near the airport, 102 mm in Mughalpura, and 84 mm at Qurtuba Chowk.
PDMA reports that not only in Lahore but also in Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Kasur, Murree, Attock, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, and Sahiwal have experienced rainfall.
The Met Office has forecasted heavy rains in most district of Punjab over the next 24hours. The monsoon spell is expected to continue till July 17.
Authorities have urged the public to limit non-essential travel, remain vigilant particularly in older structures and immediately reach out to rescue services in the event of any emergency.
