Election Commission disqualifies Jamshed Dasti over fake educational documents
The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday disqualified Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti after ruling that his educational documents were fake.
The decision was made after the Election Commission accepted a reference sent by the National Assembly Speaker.
The Election Commission, while accepting two separate petitions regarding Jamshed Dasti’s disqualification, declared that the educational credentials submitted by him were forged.
The ruling stated that Dasti had presented forged academic documents when submitting his nomination papers for the National Assembly seat, which constitutes a clear violation of electoral laws.
Based on this, the National Assembly Speaker had sent a reference to the Election Commission under Article 63 of the Constitution.
Following the decision, Jamshed Dasti is now deemed ineligible to hold a seat in the National Assembly, and his seat will be declared vacant.
Legal experts have noted that this ruling is effective immediately, although Dasti has the right to challenge the decision in court.
