KP opposition leader vows to give govt tough time in Senate elections
Leader of the Opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Dr Ibadullah has said that the united opposition plans to challenge the government vigorously in the upcoming Senate elections, predicting that it will secure at least 50% of the available seats.
During an exclusive interview with Aaj News, Dr Ibadullah stated that many members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are unhappy with their party and are reaching out to the opposition for support.
He remarked, “PTI members are expressing their desire to be freed from this torment.”
Dr Ibadullah dismissed claims that the opposition is involved in any covert agreements or transactions, attributing such rumours to certain individuals seeking to bolster their political standing.
United opposition completes strategy for elections
The united opposition has finalised its strategy for the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, preparing for the success of candidates for three general seats, one technocrat seat, and one women’s reserved seat.
The opposition alliance has agreed to support candidates from the Pakistan Muslim League-N, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F, and Pakistan Peoples Party for the three general seats.
Sources suggest that a vote distribution formula has been devised to ensure the success of Ishtiaq Amir Muqam (PML-N), Maulana Talha Mahmood, and Maulana Ata-ul-Haq Darwish (JUI).
For the technocrat seat, the opposition will back JUI’s candidate Dilawar Khan, while all parties have united in support of Rubina Khalid from the Pakistan Peoples Party for the women’s reserved seat.
This strategy is aimed at challenging PTI’s potential numerical advantage and bolstering the opposition’s presence in the Senate.
PTI leadership to discuss oath-taking for reserved seats
Meanwhile, the matter of oath-taking for the reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is intensifying political tensions.
Sources indicate that consultations are underway among PTI’s senior leadership, with an assembly session likely to be convened in the next two days for newly elected members to take their oaths.
The “big meeting” of PTI leaders is considering this assembly session essential for completing the oath-taking process, which is viewed as crucial for maintaining the party’s numerical strength.
The rising political activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suggest that unexpected developments may occur leading up to the Senate elections, with the opposition’s claims and internal strife within PTI adding further intrigue to the political landscape.
