A sudden cloudburst and just 30 minutes of torrential rainfall brought life to a standstill in Hyderabad on Monday, leaving large parts of the city submerged and causing widespread power outages.

The intense downpour led to several feet of water accumulating in low-lying areas, severely disrupting daily life and leaving residents struggling to navigate inundated streets.

According to the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), more than 220 power feeders tripped, resulting in a complete suspension of electricity across the city. Repair work is underway, a HESCO spokesperson added.

The deputy commissioner of Hyderabad stated that pumping stations were being operated using generators to facilitate water drainage.

Meanwhile, Phuleli Canal’s water level has risen dangerously, sparking concern among residents.

The heavy rainfall extended beyond Hyderabad, impacting other districts including Tando Allahyar, Tando Jam, Tando Adam, Matiari, Jamshoro, Sujawal, and Thatta, where intermittent downpours made the weather pleasant but also led to flooding in low-lying areas.

Emergency and rescue teams have been deployed in affected regions, and the district administration has urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
