Tribal elder Malik Muhammad Rehman was killed along with his driver in a targeted attack near Peer Kali, within the jurisdiction of Miranshah, while travelling from Bannu to Miranshah, police said on Monday.

According to initial reports, unknown assailants opened fire on Rehman’s vehicle as it passed through Peer Kali.

The tribal leader died on the spot, while his driver, Saeed Akbar, sustained critical injuries.

The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his wounds.

Police collected forensic evidence from the crime spot, and launched a formal investigation into the incident. The identities and motives of the attackers remain unknown at this stage.
