KP Senate polls: Opposition yet to finalise seat-sharing strategy
With Senate election preparations accelerating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, opposition parties remain divided over a unified strategy for alliances and seat-sharing arrangements.
Sources say the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has urged all opposition factions to avoid unilateral decisions and instead contest the polls collectively to maximize their chances of success.
The PPP has conveyed a firm message that going alone could result in a shared setback and even cost the bloc a Senate seat.
According to insiders, PPP’s provincial president Muhammad Ali Shah has initiated contact with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and PTI Parliamentarians to forge consensus.
The party is hopeful of a positive response from its counterparts, with expectations that a united opposition could secure at least five seats in the upcoming elections.
Initial estimates of seat adjustments suggest that the PPP and JUI-F could each win two seats, while the PML-N is likely to clinch one.
